Happy New Year! I hope you have had time to reflect on 2016, let it pass over you and move into 2017 with an open heart and a fresh start, no matter of the happenings in the last year. I hope you welcomed this year with your loved ones, lots of laughs and sweet memories to kick it off on a bright note. If you spent it at home by yourself, snuggled up, eating lots of goodies and watching NYE specials then what a cozy way to start it! If I didn’t have traveling plans it’s exactly what I would have done too. Whichever way you transitioned into the new year I do hope it was one that you enjoyed—one that awakened inspiration within you and got you excited for what is to come.
With every new year that we meet there is always the cliché “new year, new me,” resolutions, and goals that come with it. We can often find ourselves feeling the pressure of following these in the moment; writing down tons of must-do’s to complete by the end of the year. These “have-to-get-done-before-next-year” lists can add so much pressure to the start of a new year though. Why put a time limit on certain opportunities and happenings? Why not just let them naturally happen?
Now, of course with such things like creating a healthier lifestyle some planning will always have to be made. However, I believe that when such things start to have a time stamp on them is when the stress begins. Instead, try creating goals by day or month. Focus on each day as it comes, and in turn you’ll feel so much relief. Writing down such must-do’s like “Get a promotion by next year,” or “Move to a new place” can feel so far from reach at the start of a new year. Sometimes such things can be quite far and that just may be because the timing isn’t right. I believe you are in charge of your own destiny, however things can happen unexpectedly in life so there is no way of ever knowing when exactly something can.
Heck, you may not have even reached your 2016 resolutions that were made in 2015. And guess what? That is completely okay. Do not beat yourself up about it. Shed the weight and grow some more. You do it every birthday, so do it every year too! Treat it like the new beginning it is celebrated to be. Imagine yourself walking through a door you’ve never been through before and start your adventure. Write down what happens and piggyback from there.
Life can be so much extraordinary when you just let it happen and live. So, don’t be afraid with what is to come. It is unknown and unpredictable, but that is the beauty of it. Let yourself thrive in all of what can be. Begin each day anew and show the world what you can give! And if one day doesn’t work out the way you planned startup again the next. This life is yours—remember that. Because girl, you got this; even during the moments you feel like you may not. Rise up and grab a grip again when you need it. And most importantly, be proud of all of your victories—big and small.
“There is no statue of limitations on starting over. Re-invent yourself every day. Be the girl who walks barefoot and listens to the blues. Tomorrow, wear a trench coat and speak fierce truths. Be a phoenix. Be ashes. Burn down. Resurrect. Let go of the idea that you must always be who you have always been.”
Thank you for reading. <3
Lots of Love, Victoria.
