Girl, You Got This | Little Life Update & Some Words

img_4286

Hello loves,

It’s been quite some time since I’ve shared a blog post with ya’ll and truth be told, life just has gotten in the way. So, what have I been up to as of late? I’ll sum it up in a few bullet points down below.

  • Working like a mad woman.
  • Spending time with my family.
  • Spontaneous adventures with my boyfriend and friends.
  • And last but not least, trying to find my way back to writing again.

Now the last bullet point definitely can sound like a shock because writing is what I do all the time. It’s what I went to school for, how I ended up where I am today and something that always helps me center myself when everything is wracking inside my brain.

Don’t get me wrong, I love writing and always will. Words are utterly powerful to me in the way that they can create worlds, characters and feelings without you having to see anything. Writing non-stop though can take its toll; I love what I do very much, but I am also my own worst critic. I had come to a point where I was putting pressure on myself to quickly write a piece, even if it wasn’t going to be my best work. That was when I had to stop. I needed to give myself a break and let life just swoop me up in the hopes to find my inspiration all over again.

I had an English teacher in high school who told me once, “Never put your name on something you aren’t proud of, because what you write is a reflection of yourself.” I have carried that quote with me for years; all throughout college and my post-grad life. So when I’m feeling crappy and I know my writing will be crappy, I need a revitalization. Something to wake my creativity up after it has been drained from using it so much. Does that make sense? Just envision yourself doing something you really enjoy so much that it starts to feel empty. It’s not second nature any more. You’re just doing it to get it done—cringing along the way and struggling to remember just what it is that made it so easy once.

With my fast-paced work schedule, spending time with my family, going on adventures when I have spare time and just having a “me moment” I had to remember why I love what I do. I believe we all need moments like these. A time where you just need to unplug yourself from social media, your blog, being creative, or whatever your niche is, and just be.

So that’s what I’ve been doing; living and finding inspiration along the way to help the creative juices start to flow again. It’s safe to say that I have a grip on them once more with this little blog post as an introduction to my favorite series from my old blog—say hello to “Girl, You Got This.”

If you don’t remember my motivational series from my old blog, “Girl, you got this” is a saying I’ve been telling myself for years whenever I have felt scared, in a rut (like writer’s block), doubtful, brave, emotional or gutsy. Those four little words help uplift me into going out into the world and just doing. In “Girl, You Got This” I’ll be sharing monthly blog posts filled with self-love, affirmations, quotes, feminist topics, inspiration, chit chats, personal insights and a whole lot of girl power made to cheer you on, and help any of you remember the extraordinary person you are.

I’m so excited to start this series again and hope ya’ll find something that you are looking for within each of them. Feel free to share with me anything that you may have on your mind in each post as well; I’m always happy to lend an ear or some words. <3 Hope ya’ll are having a beautiful week and stay tuned!

I began to realize how important it was to be an enthusiast in life. If you are interested in something, no matter what it is, go at it full speed ahead. Embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it and above all become passionate about it. Lukewarm is no good. – Roald Dahl

Whether you want to write poems, love to make the cutest homemade items, are trying to make your dreams of big city livin’ a reality or anything else you put your heart into—I am all about girls uplifting, motivating, loving, inspiring and supporting one another. No matter if it’s a little action from commenting to how much you admire what they do or if it’s a big action, like promoting them as much as you can. Haiii Sarah (aka Daisy Natives’ girl boss) haiii! Empowering the rad, powerful and wonderful women I meet makes me believe that we can really make any changes within the world together.

The “Girls Support Girls” tee, available in pink and white, by Daisy Natives supports this movement full of girl power like no tomorrow. Worn by some of my favorite creative babes that I admire, this tee has become a must-have for any girl boss out in the world; so much so that it is even being sold on ModCloth and is now available in pin form!

Mimosa Madness

IMG_0119

Hi loves,

I’m sorry bunches for being a bit M.I.A lately! I’ve been such a busy bee with working that making the time to sit down and write to ya’ll has been almost impossible. Luckily though, I’m finally typing away, on none other than my favorite day of the week, happy to share a style post with you featuring a delightful brand that I hope will put a smile on your faces.

Say hello to Daisy Natives,  a magical brand created by an extraordinary babe named Sarah Lapp who curates some out-of-this-world tees for the little nerds, creators, unicorns, go-getters, brunch addicts and superwoman gals we all can be. I have been ga-ga over Daisy Natives ever since I came across this small brand on Instagram about a year ago. Since that time, I have watched Sarah Lapp’s bundle of joy grow more and more, which has been truly magical to witness. From her “Girls Support Girls” tee (stay tuned for a style post ft. it this week) that has grabbed millions of girls’ attention, and is currently being sold on ModCloth, to all of the epic sayings that are painted over each tee she comes out with—including the one I’ll be sharing with you today. With her authenticity and badass aura there’s no denying that Sarah is a dream-come-true for all of us quirky gals in the fashion world.

I’ll be sharing with ya’ll two style posts featuring my lil’ collection of tees (that will be growing, I’m sure) from Daisy Natives. And what more of a perfect way to start than with her “Mimosa Tee” on a Sunday? So grab yourself a glass of champagne + OJ and gain some style inspo with this bright number!

I am a diehard fan over mimosas. I could drink them by the pitcherfull and never have any regrets…well, until the next morning that is. Needless to say, I needed this tee in my life when my eyes landed on it. I swear Sarah makes all my thoughts a reality with what she creates. A mimosa tee for a mimosa babe. It’s a match made in brunch heaven. Paired with a trendy denim skirt, blush wedge-heeled espadrilles and a knotted head wrap you’ll be ready for any festivity you’re attending—including brunch, of course.

On The Move

Hello loves,

I’ve been on an adventure high recently, and I believe it has a lot to do with summer being right around the corner. June 20th, (the official start of summer) I’m ready for ya!

So, when it comes to summer adventures it’s all about my go-to sunny outfits, which if you remember my last style post consists of: simple pieces, sneakers and little details. Whether your discovering a new city,  kicking it in your hometown, trekking through the mountains or having a spontaneous road trip with your friends, I think outfits that fit said criteria are the most fitting for any on-the-move festivity.

IMG_8393 IMG_8394 IMG_8395IMG_8396 IMG_8397

While I was in the middle of one of my own adventures, I snapped some photos of my outfit of the moment after I hopped off the train. Nothing was stopping me on this day, which happened to turn into one filled with many happenings. In a charcoal swing dress, Converse high-tops, matching socks and my favorite hat I was ready for everything.  Doesn’t this hat kind of remind you of Indiana Jones too? Haha. It did for me when scrolling through these pics.

IMG_8399 IMG_8404 IMG_8405

As for my accessories, besides my Indiana Jones hat, I believe a go-to bag that can fit all of your necessities, and not-so-necessary items, is a must. I call such carry-all’s that have tons of storage with room to spare, my grab-and-go bags. This knitted one from boohoo is just perfect for fitting my wallet, Nintendo 3DS (which I’ve been obsessed with), makeup bag, snacks, camera and much more; because a woman can never be too prepared.

Where the Wild Things Are

IMG_6478

Hello loves,

I’ve been soaking up these long, sweet and sunny days like no tomorrow. The warmer weather has finally hit home and I hope it never leaves. Now that the sun is back around more consistently, I’m all over breezy dresses, open-toe shoes, slip-on sneakers, skirts with slits and off-the-shoulder or open-shoulder tops—if that isn’t evident from my previous style post and this one, haha.

IMG_6735IMG_6736IMG_6767

When it comes to my overall style when the temperature kicks up, I stick to simple outfits that create a statement or have subtle details. Take this open-shoulder blouse for instance; it’s a classic cut that is so easy to style, and the little details just give it a fresh spin I believe. From the navy embroidery to the color block tassels that tie in the back, this blouse has something going at every angle.

IMG_6762IMG_6761IMG_6750 IMG_6745

To keep all eyes focused on the blouse, I paired it with my favorite high-waisted jeans—surprise, surprise—and a pair of white slip-on kicks. I wanted to keep the fun going on with this blouse so “fun buns” it was in a half up, half down hair-do with a bright coral lippie from ColourPop Cosmetics. How could I not have fun with all these elements?! Especially with the poppin’ backdrop I was working with.

IMG_6499 IMG_6727 IMG_6756IMG_6752

Being surrounded by such colorful flowers and overgrown foliage reminded me of one of my favorite childhood books, Where the Wild Things Are. Which instantenously made me feel like one of the wild things as well. *insert monkey emoji with hands covering eyes* I’m a cornball, I know, but hey one of my favorite happy feelings is nostalgia over childhood memories; especially when I find that they still put just as much of a smile on my face while “adulting.”
